Investigation Concerning Termination of Smokers And/Or Charging Smokers Higher Healthcare or Disability Premiums. In 30 states and the District of Columbia, state law makes it illegal for companies to impose smoking bans on their employees when they are off duty. In addition, the federal employee benefits law, ERISA, prevents employers from discriminating against and/or firing employees, here smokers, to interfere with the attainment of any right under a benefit plan, here the right to health benefits.
Smoking bans crossing line of common sense. The anti-smoking campaign has crossed the line toward infringing on individual rights. Smoking products are still legal.
Used Smoke. There is a philosophy that I call Conform and Obey or Pay. History writers have given this philosophy different names but the outcome is the same. The bottom line of this philosophy negates a free country and a free people. Do you want to be free or not? |

Allow extra driving time, you could be pulled over by the police. Watch out when driving your young looking son to the airport to rejoin the troops. Be careful taking your young looking wife to the bank to sign your mortgage papers. Don't let anyone slump down in your car or wear a hat. |

Outdoor smoking bans rile anti-tobacco leader. Siegel is speaking out against the movement he helped create. Why? Today's anti-smoking crusaders, he says, have lost their moorings in science by advocating smoking bans in the last refuge for smokers -- the great outdoors.
Jose Rodriguez. It's a sad day for freedom when business owners who cater to strictly adult clientele aren't allowed to dictate what legal activities can take place inside the closed doors of their establishments. I'm sure somewhere in hell, Stalin is applauding.
Rise of the food tyrants. By Walter E. Williams. Smokers have been relatively passive and have allowed the anti-smoking zealots to run roughshod over them. The question is whether those of us who wish to eat as we please will allow the food zealots to do the same. These people are cowards, and here's why: If Mayor Bloomberg and other food zealots think I'm eating too many trans fats, let them personally come and take fatty foods off my plate or remove them from my shopping cart. Since they don't have the guts to do that, they correctly deem it safer to use the brute force of the state to control what I eat. |

The tyranny of the majority. By Jordan Mueller. We refer to bars and restaurants as “public” places because people go there, but they are actually privately owned businesses. If there were a demand for smoke-free establishments, then owners would ban the practice voluntarily — as many already have. Some have not, indicating the demand for places where smoking is permitted, but those bothered by secondhand smoke are free to avoid the latter.

Another study finds no link between secondhand smoke exposure and heart attack. UK: No smoke-breast cancer link in study. |
