"This is a court of law, young man, not a court of justice." - Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
What's Fraud for Big Tobacco Is Regulation for Big Government. By Jacob Sullum. Under the bill, the FDA would have the authority to set maximum levels for specific components of tobacco smoke, based on the same sort of machine-generated numbers that public health officials and anti-smoking activists roundly condemn as not only inaccurate but fraudulent. TOBACCO REGULATION SMOKE-SCREEN. By Chuck Muth. About the only power the FDA wouldn't have over tobacco under Kennedy-Waxman is the power to ban it altogether. But there's always tomorrow. USA Less Smokers, Less Tax Money. "The taxes on smoking are being used to fund education, they're being used to fund health care, they're being used to fund real things. Now, if we eliminate smoking, does it mean that those things go away?" Behind Antismoking Policy, Influence of Drug Industry Government Guidelines. Don't Push Cold Turkey; Advisers' Company Ties. By Kevin Helliker. Michael Fiore is in charge of revising federal guidelines on how to get smokers to quit. He also runs an academic research center funded in part by drug companies that make quit-smoking aids, and he personally has received tens of thousands of dollars in speaking and consulting fees from those companies.

"I'm fairly low-maintenance. Packet of smokes and a few pints and I'm a happy man." - Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell Targeted By Anti Smoking Bigots. Whether Colin Farrell smokes or is seen to smoke matters little to cigarette consumption worldwide. This won't prevent the anti smoking fanatics putting him and other celebrities into their sights as they attempt to bulldoze the rest of us under their juggernaut of intolerance. New Study Casts Doubt on Significance of Harvard Nicotine Yield Report and Wisdom of FDA Tobacco Legislation. By Michael Siegel. This article also makes it clear that the FDA tobacco legislation, as currently proposed, will not only fail to protect the public's health, but will likely lead to government deception of the American consumer. The government, instead of tobacco companies, would (under the proposed legislation) control the machine-measured yields of various constituents, giving consumers the false impression that this regulation of machine-measured yields has any relationship whatsoever to human health.

These are the forgotten ones. Will you help me to bring attention to their plight?
It is illegal to force a dog out into the cold, but it is OK to force a human out into the cold?

Health Minister Xavier Bertrand said at a news conference last week that as many as 175,000 police officers, health and other inspectors would enforce the new law, fining violators. Bill Reverses Hawaii's Smoking Ban in Bars, Nightclubs and Restaurants. Provided that exterior signage adequately warns the public that smoking is allowed within. A U.S. Supreme court decision during the early 1970's ((Lloyd Corp v. Tanner, 407 U.S. 551 (1992)) said a place of business does not become public property because the public is invited in. So, by that same reasoning. A restaurant or bar is not public property. We need to support small business and stop regulating them out of business. Smoke and Rearview Mirrors. By Gary Nolan. Spending money to enforce such a law seems absurd when there are rapists, child molesters and murderers out there. Let us not usurp the rights of parents, abuse private property rights, waste valuable law enforcement resources or hand over our liberty to the state on the basis of faulty conventional wisdom.

The reason for the existing law is that animals in such venues pose a potential health risk to humans. Apparently, that is no longer the case, but second-hand smoke from cigarettes continues to be banned as a major health risk.

The Bogus Science of Secondhand Smoke By Gio Batta Gori. A frank discussion is needed to restore straight thinking in the legitimate uses of "the science" of epidemiology uses that go well beyond secondhand smoke issues. By Michael Siegel. I agree that many of the claims being publicly disseminated by anti-smoking groups, including the Surgeon General's office, are based on bogus science. Public policy should be based on accurate and well-documented science...
