 Cherie Blair helps club owner challenge Tony's smoking ban. "This test case seeks a ruling that smoking should be allowed in private clubs. If successful it would run a coach and horses through the ban. Smokers have rights too."
UK: Hundreds of pubs to flout smoking ban. Pubs plan a 'day of defiance' on 1 July. With a survey showing that three million smokers plan to defy the rules, the ban is facing three high court challenges. "It is a -protest against dictatorship."
Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson has said that the impending smoking ban is an "infringement of civil liberties" and that pro-smoking campaigners will "fight on" after the July 1 ban.

 Anti-smoking group loses fight, and funding in the Mississippi Supreme Court. In a statement, Gov. Haley Barbour said the ruling "emphatically confirms what has always been obvious - only the Mississippi Legislature can appropriate the state's money. A local judge and the attorney general have no power to give taxpayer money to a private charity. It's a shame it took a long, drawn-out lawsuit to stop this illegal and unconstitutional diversion of taxpayer money."

 The verdict is in: Smoking bans hurt the hospitality business. "The cat's out of the bag." according to Kuneman. "Let's face it and be honest about it. There have been way too many jurisdictions which have enacted bans now for their ill-effects to be ignored. Everyone now knows bans hurt business and despite what pro-ban lobbyists claim, there are now solid and independent economic studies to back up that conclusion."
