Snuff Out Cigarettes? Crusade to ban outdoor smoking is motivated by tobacco scorn, not science. By Michael J. McFadden. If there really was a significant threat from exposure to secondary smoke in well-ventilated spaces or outdoor spaces -- a threat even mildly approaching that posed by asbestos, tainted food or ignored fire codes -- it might be proper for the heavy hand of government to weigh in. However, there is no such threat, at least none soundly demonstrated by scientific fact as opposed to press-release hype.
