Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual."
- Mark Twain
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! Nicotine - The Zombie Antidote. By Gabriela Segura, MD. I have found anti-smoking activists to be intolerant, judgmental Authoritarian Follower types. They believe and parrot emotionally charged catchphrases taken straight from government anti-smoking propaganda. Doctors and non-smokers alike are guilty of this. They feel righteous when providing such 'advice' yet fail to take notice of how ill they themselves look, and forget that, in many cases, their own health issues went downhill when they stopped smoking. Thanks to some pretty convoluted thinking, if they are some day diagnosed with a serious disease, they will later blame their 'smoking years', while overlooking the real culprits of today's modern diseases: junk diets high in carbohydrates and the industrial-scale toxicity that has choked our environment. People who smoke often experience cognitive impairment when they stop smoking. This worsening is due to the fact that nicotine acts as an agonist (that is, it mimics) receptors of acetylcholine which are important for learning, memory and cognitive functions. Daily infusions of nicotine actually increase the number of acetylcholine receptors. (Read more!)
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! St. Paul soda fountain busted for selling candy cigarettes. A city inspections official came in last week and gave the shop a warning and added that a misdemeanor citation - with a $500 fine - would be next if the cancer-free confectionery continues to be sold. Candy cigarettes, bubble gum cigars and bubblegum made to look like chewing tobacco have been among a host of vintage sugary treats that Lynden's has kept in stock since it opened in April. "We had no idea," Tobi Lynden said Wednesday, lamenting that she can no longer sell the white candy sticks with the red tips, her best-selling candy item. "We don't want to get on the bad side of St. Paul." "Somebody from Bloomington called and reported us," Lynden said. "The whole thing is pretty weird." Robert Humphrey, spokesman or the city's Safety and Inspections Department, said the complaint came to his agency on Dec. 13. An inspector visited Lynden's on Dec. 19 and had the verboten products immediately removed from the sales floor. Humphrey said he gets a complaint "about once a year" concerning the sale of candy cigarettes and other sugary tobacco-themed products in his city.
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! Maldives: Tobacco Control Act could see tomato, potato cultivation banned. Under the act, the cultivation of any species in the tobacco family - which includes potatoes, tomatoes and peppers - would be prohibited in the Maldives. The tobacco family known as Solanaceae contains roughly 90 genera and around 2,000 species. Assistant Director of the Agricultural Ministry Mohamed Naseem was quoted in local media as saying that the new law would prohibit the cultivation of potato and tomato in the country. He stated that the issue has been brought to the attention of the health ministry and that it must be revised.
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! NZ Label alcohol like cigarettes. Given the Government's inability to create sensible laws regarding alcohol advertising and labelling, is it not time to shame individuals in the alcohol industry to make real moves to ensure all alcohol and all advertisements contain clear warnings about drinking during pregnancy and the risks of cancer?

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath."

Our Christmas Card For You.

Read more about keeping Christmas in Christmas.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St. Nicolas soon would be there.
When suddenly up on the roof, there a'rose such a clatter,
I jumped up from my bed, to see what was the matter.
I ran down the stairs, and what did I find?
a big fat elf smoke'n in my living room, ...must be out of his mind.
I yelled HEY! get out of here with that pipe,
You're stinkin' up my house, and that ain't just no hype.
I'll get the Lung Association, and Heart Association and ANR in your face,
I'll make a few calls, and even get Repace!
and I'll bet you didn't even pay taxes on the weed in that thing,
when the attorney general gets done with you, you'll end up in Sing Sing.
and the FAA says you can't smoke on your sleigh,
It's a regularly scheduled flight, even if it's for only one day.
and the law says you can't smoke, in your workshop at all,
the Dept. of Health will fine you, when I give em' a call.
So get out of here with that thing, and don't ever come back,
or ASH will rip it out of your mouth, and shove it up your crack.
Next year Tobacco-free Kids will deliver our gift,
you're banished from Christmas, do you get my drift?
and I heard him exclaim, as he rode out of sight,
Merry Christmas to all! 'cept the dork on my right.

"For every prohibition you create, you also create an underground."
-Jello Biafra
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! WA Marijuana: Like Amsterdam: Washington bar owner lets patrons get stoned. "I stay up at night," he said. "I'm about to lose my business. So I've got to figure out some way to get people in here." Schnarr, who waged an ultimately successful battle with local and state officials over Washington's 2006 smoking ban, appears to be the first restaurant or bar owner in the state to test the recently expanded limits on recreational marijuana use. So, is he breaking the law? Federal, state and local officials appear unsure. Or if they are, they're not saying.
OK Fourth attempt for bill: During the state's next legislative cycle, Oklahoma health leaders will yet again try to pass a bill that would allow communities to pass their own smoking ordinances. "At some point, we need to expect people to take personal responsibility for their actions," Crain said. "We have done everything we can to educate people on the harms of tobacco smoking. If the purpose of the bill is to say "We are going to outlaw tobacco use in Oklahoma," then let's go ahead and say "The purpose is to outlaw tobacco use in Oklahoma." Let's not keep infringing upon how we expect people to act."
SC Goose Creek: Smoking ban advances. Final reading will be held at council's January meeting. The law would allow smoking on porches and decks more than 10 feet from a building's entrance. Heitzler said he believes smoking is a health issue but that since neither the state Department of Health and Environmental Control nor the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulate it, neither should Goose Creek. "This is none of our business," he said. "Personal choice is your business."
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! USA: Health coalition seeks more revenue for smoking prevention. Less than 2 percent of the nearly $26 billion that states will get this year from tobacco taxes and a 1998 tobacco settlement will be spent on tobacco cessation or prevention efforts. Responded Michael J. McFadden, "The Tobacco Controllers like to put on the white hats and play the role of the selfless and charitable Crusaders. Now they're screaming because they're only getting $459,500,000.00 a year for their efforts. I vote that they should continue doing their "good work" -- and do it out of the goodness of their hearts rather than out of the pockets of the taxpayers."
Australia: Only One Tune. By Frank Davis. The Australian Medical Association has urged the federal government to ban stickers being sold to wrap around cigarette packets to sidestep tobacco plain packaging laws. So, having banned tobacco companies from packaging their cigarettes as they like, and covering them with obscene pictures instead, Australian antismoking zealots are now calling for stickers to place over the obscene pictures to also be be banned. Like Chris Snowdon says, these people really only have one tune, don't they?

"Common sense is not so common."
- Voltaire
Property Rights for all include Smokers Rights! Corruption starts with the anti tobacco mob! Australia. So today sees the inauguration of Australia's plain packaging for cigarettes. Now I say plain packaging but of course they are far from plain as it seems that tobacco manufacturers aren't allowed to have any pictures or decroations on their packets but the anti tobacco mob, in league with the governmnent can cover 75% of the packet with silly pictures of green teeth, stapled eyes & a small child with breathing problems (probably bronchial and absolutely nothing to do with tobacco smoke-but it serves their purpose!) to cite but a few. Arnott et al complain that anyone objecting to her and her cohorts actions must be in the pay of "Big Tobacco", yet they are all funded by Big Pharma who are simply in it for the financial gains. Pfizer were fined $60,000,000 for a decade of fraud & deception-but were they bothered? I don't think so. So who is the more corrupt?
More Big Pharmaceutical Articles: The Politics of Drug Promotion.
Beirut: Hospitality sector vows to ignore smoking ban. Hundreds of owners and employees protested in Beirut Wednesday. The demonstrators vented their anger at Law 174, which forbids smoking in public places - a law that many in the health sector see as necessary but which frustrates those in the hospitality industry. The workers, who blamed the ban for the significant drop in customers at restaurants and other hospitality establishments, blocked Beirut's Sodeco road leading to Ashrafieh, declaring that they would stop enforcing the ban until it was amended.
Scotland: Scottish Tobacco Control: never mind the evidence feel the bias. By Belinda Cunnison. There must be dialogue with people who can speak with authority on modern air quality standards and air cleaning technology, both in relation to the hospitality trade and the wider economy. Air cleaning technology will just get better and better, and common sense will prevail eventually.
HI: Tobacco ban at county parks goes up in smoke. Council rejects ordinance, passes resolution without enforcement authority. "We just have to move forward and focus on the education, and focus on the public awareness, and focus on the belief of people doing the right thing," Kuali'i said. "Our citizens are good. Common courtesy, I would bet is 99.99 percent. The problems people are saying exist, are minimum to none."
